We are Experts in the Art and Science of Painting.
We have learned and perfected how to solve all the situations and problems that can occur in painting a house. We have become masters of our trade.
There is more to it than applying paint to a wall or molding. The most important part is preparation. Repairing the walls with plaster that have cracks, peeling paint, holes, dents and imperfections. We caulk cracks, treat knots and pole sand all surfaces. We know what to do and (perform) all the necessary steps to accomplish a beautiful job that will look great and last for years.
We have become masters in our trade with more than 10,000 hours each of practice and experience.
We have learned and mastered all the facets of our trade. Including plastering, mud glazing, large and small hole repair, painting all kinds of surfaces with brush and roll. Spray painting with Airless and HVLP systems on any surface. Staining and varnishing any surfaces. Wall paper removal and installation.
We have also mastered finishing carpentry by removing old moldings and installation of new moldings and crown moldings.
The science of painting is in the paint and materials used on your project. We constantly seek out and test a lot of paint and supplies. All the paint companies have great paints but each company have their strength and offer great value for the money. We choose by getting the best service, quality, price, value and performance from our paints and suppliers.
Since we are skilled and highly trained in our profession we pride ourselves in doing a great job and taking care of all the steps on any given project. Since preparation is a huge grey area we will tailor your project to your specific budget and if you are fussy and meticulous we will accommodate your wishes.
There are hundreds of painters out there that you can hire like Jobbers, Smearers or Apartment Painters that do no prep and apply cheap paint. They cost a little less up front but will probably require a do-over after a short period of time once the project is complete.
We will give you value for your money. We are faster, cleaner and more experienced and will deliver a finish product with quality materials and expert craftsmanship. It may cost you a little bit more up front but the quality will be remembered long after the price has been forgotten.
I think my love and fascination started when I was very young and watching my Dad in his home studio creating his huge murals on his wall out of cut out beaver board. He was a commercial artist and decorated Hotels, Discotheques, Bars, Restaurants and Grocery stores with his huge murals on the large empty walls of these businesses throughout Quebec and Ontario during the 50’s and early 60’s.
Sometimes he would take me on his installation trips and show me the ropes.
My fist project was painting my room at 13. Then I prepped and painted the exterior of our wood house in Baie D’Urfe. The paint was old, peeling and flacking. In those days it was common to strip it with a blow torch. I cracked a few windows and I was lucky I din’t burn the house down. But I ended up doing a good job. For several summers I teamed up with friends and family and painted houses.
In school I din’t really apply myself and my grades were low but I did graduate from high school. My mom wanted me to go into the medical profession and become a doctor. I considered it and I did go back as a mature student and redid math, science and English courses and raised my high school grades. Then the following year I enrolled in an intensive college program and completed a science program and got my CEGEP degree. From there I went to Concordia University and enrolled in a Bio Physical education program in the health sciences.
I got fed up with school and decided to take a break and become a professional Ski Patroller up at Grey Rocks full time for 1 season, then part time for several years at Mont-Tremblant. it was an exciting experience and it felt like a holiday. But I needed to get serious and find a career. In the summers and than full time I became a sales rep and sold all kinds of products ranging from encyclopedias, Filter Queen Vacuum Cleaners, industrial adhesive sales and than computer supplies and products.
It was important part of my life because I was honing my skills in sales, marketing and service that would serve me well in my future career.
My dream was to become an entrepreneur and start my own business. But to satisfy my mom’s desire for me to become a doctor I came up with the idea to create a company that would take care of sick houses and buildings. I would become a Doctor in Paint. I knew how to paint and prep, the construction industry at this time was booming and there was a shortage of good professional painters. The timing was perfect and I was the first with this concept. It was natural with my sales experience and painting skills to start a painting business and I came up with a great name and a marketing plan. I started “ The Paintologists “ in the summer of 1986. And after 36 years I am still building my flourishing business with thousands of past clients, and satisfying a huge niche in the home services industry.
At the beginning I didn’t always know how to do all the various services that we now offer. I learned from my suppliers and the industry and we pushed ourselves with trial and error and alway perfecting our skills . The key is, we have the can-do attitude and never ever afraid to push ourselves and become better craftsman.
I have trained and worked with many painters and master painters in my 40 plus years being involved in this industry and the best ones all have one thing in common. It’s not talent or something you can learn, it’s in your soul. You either have it or you don’t.
